Hey, Tamieka here! I'm a classically trained, bi-coastal actor and a proud member of the Actors Equity Association. I caught the acting bug at the ripe ol' age of four years old when my auntie and I auditioned for a local talent show. Although we didn't make the show, the seed had been planted and I haven't looked back since! Quirky yet provocative, uptight doctor with a sense of humor... the love child of Jenifer Lewis and Philip Seymour Hoffman with Viola Davis as their surrogate... that's me! I've been nominated for and won numerous awards, including the Daytime Emmy Awards, Indie Series Awards, and Broadway World Awards. I'm also a proud member of the Black Classical Acting Ensemble at Chesapeake Shakespeare Company. When not performing, you can usually find me teaching Shakespeare to middle and high schoolers as a teaching artist with Chesapeake Shakespeare Company or teaching theatre and film acting as a faculty member at the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts. I'm extremely proud of the intense acting training programs I've graduated from at the British American Drama Academy (BADA) in Oxford, UK and the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in Washington DC. I see myself as more than just a storyteller. I am an expressor of the human experience. There is a truth that connects us all as humans and it’s a beautiful thing to discover and explore those truths within the characters I play, in all of their complexity, beauty, and messiness. These discoveries allow me to build and bridge a connection between myself and my audiences as we share an unspoken permission to dive deep and explore our inner selves. Through my work, on stage and screen, it is my hope to make these kinds of connections with as many people as possible. The more exposed and vulnerable I am in "living" a character’s life, their truth, the more my audience will hopefully feel comfortable in further discovering their own truths and inner lives. I believe in making art that is honest, accessible, and inclusive.
